History of Arvin Radios
MAARC member Brian Belanger will present the history of Arvin radios. Noblitt-Sparks Industries started as a manufacturer of car parts and introduced its first “Arvin” car radio in 1933. In 1935 they began making home radios, including famous ones like the Hopalong Cassidy radio, Rhythm King, Rhythm Queen, Phantom and others. In 1948 they produced their first television sets and produced some Hi-Fi radios and cheaper home radios into the 1960s.
Brian is a long-time member of MAARC, our head auctioneer, and Curator of our sister organization, the National Capital Radio and Television Museum in Bowie, MD.
For the display table, bring in your pre-WWII car radios, especially Arvins!
This meeting will be held at the Davidsonville Family Recreation Center. For directions, click here.
The National Weather Service predicts good weather: Partly cloudy with temps in the mid 80s and chance of rain in the afternoon after we move inside. If you feel too warm, come inside and cool off; be careful, it’s DC summertime!
